Paid Teaching Internships
What is a teaching internship?
The internship programme is a paid initiative to support motivated and dedicated individuals to gain valuable hands-on experience of the teaching profession. This enables prospective 'future teachers' to understand more about the role of teachers and what it is like to teach in modern secondary schools.
Summer interns completing the full three-week programme receive funding of £1275 (equivalent to £425 per week).
When is it?
The summer internship programme is three weeks - Monday 23rd June - Friday 11th July 2025 and takes place at George Abbot School, Woodruff Avenue, Guildford, GU1 1XX
Who is eligible?
Undergraduate and master's students studying for a degree in a STEM-related subject or a language can apply to experience teaching in:
- maths
- physics
- chemistry
- computing
- languages
What is involved?
Interns will have a structured programme which develops a strong understanding of some of the varied roles and responsibilities of a teacher including:
- structured training sessions
- observation
- shadowing
- joint planning and teaching
- involvement in wider whole school activities
- opportunities to talk with Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and current SCITT trainee teachers
Interns will be supported through the programme by subject mentors and members of the South Farnham SCITT team. You will form new networks, with teaching staff, expert teachers, SF SCITT and with the other interns on the programme.
What's in it for me?
Apart from the opportunity to earn as you learn across the three weeks, the programme enables you to gain a strong understanding of what it means to be a teacher and what that looks and feels like in modern secondary schools. Completing an internship programme is an excellent basis to begin your journey towards becoming a teacher. We are on hand to advise on routes into teaching and how to apply.
Additionally, if you apply to teach with SF SCITT having completed the internship programme, we guarantee you an interview for a place on our prestigious school-centred training programme.
